Project Overview
Located on a busy inner-Brisbane corridor, the Lutwyche service station upgrade required careful planning and staging to maintain safety and minimise disruption.
Delivered over 13 weeks, the project combined a complete fuel system renewal, environmental improvements, civil upgrades and brand conversion on a highly constrained site, with road and footpath closures and limited working space adding to the complexity of delivery.

Project Scope
Nqpetro was engaged to manage the complete fuel site upgrade, from decommissioning through to commissioning of the new system.
Key elements of the scope included:
- Removal & full decommissioning of existing steel underground fuel tanks & associated pipework
- Farming & stockpiling of contaminated soil on site in line with environmental requirements
- Excavation for new fuel tanks & an oily water separator
- Installation of the new fuel tanks (2 × 70 kL)
- Removal of existing concrete areas to allow for new forecourt & drainage layouts
- Supply & installation of the new fuel system pipework & electrical system
- Supply & installation of all civil drainage, including forecourt capture for improved pollution control
- Civil works across the forecourt & surrounding areas
- External building works & upgrades to align the site with the new operating model
- Branding upgrades to the new fuel brand
- Integrity testing of the new fuel system
- Commissioning of the new fuel system & handover to the operator

Project Challenges
The Lutwyche site sits on a busy Brisbane corridor, which introduced a number of planning & construction challenges. Works were delivered under tight site & traffic constraints, including:
- Road & footpath closures to facilitate tank delivery, crane operations & new service connections
- Limited on-site space for materials, plant & soil stockpiles
Careful staging, coordination with local authorities & close communication with neighbours ensured works
were completed safely & on schedule.

pay-at-the-pump upgrade
To support the move to unmanned operation, Nqpetro installed four new dispensers with pay-at-the-pump capability, enabling customers to refuel at any time of the day or night.
The new equipment provides a simple, self-service refuelling experience for motorists, while giving the operator robust control, reporting and payment functionality suited to a modern, unattended site.
