Nqpetro were recently engaged to manage the overall fuel cleanliness for Hamilton Island’s backup diesel generator. Led by our Project Manager Matt Logan, the works involved a complete upgrade to ensure reliable, clean fuel supply in a harsh marine environment.
• Design, fabrication, and installation of a custom-built filtration system
• Integration with SCADA system for remote monitoring and control
• Full internal clean of two 110,000L diesel tanks, hand-wiped dry
• External corrosion protection applied for tank longevity
• Installation of two dual T.R.A.P. breathers to block moisture and particulates
• Delivered in a remote and challenging island environment
The custom filtration system was designed and fabricated in-house by Nqpetro, ensuring it met the specific requirements of the site. Purpose-built filter vessels were incorporated into our skid-mounted system, with Nqpetro completing the installation, interconnecting valving, and pipework to deliver a fully integrated solution for reliable fuel cleanliness.
The system provides dual functionality:
• Filtering fuel on entry into storage tanks
• Polishing or cleaning fuel already inside the tanks
This approach keeps fuel continuously circulated, monitored, and clean. All flow paths are controlled by an external SCADA system, enabling operators to remotely monitor and manage both the filtration unit and the wider fuel system. This real-time control ensures the generator is always ready to perform at short notice.
To further strengthen fuel quality management, two dual T.R.A.P. breathers were installed. These advanced breathers protect against moisture and particulate ingress during pressure and temperature changes. In marine environments, this safeguard is essential to maintain fuel integrity and ensure long-term reliability.
